Autumn Leaves

The change from autumn to winter has a special atmosphere. The memories of happy days in summer still carry longing, and winter carries the certainty of transience.

In his poem „Les Feuilles mortes“ Jacques Prévert had captured this special mood in wonderful words, to which Joseph Kosma composes his music as a chanson. Yves Montand and Edith Piaf were among the most famous performers before Johnny Mercer translated the French poem into English and the song became a great international success and a jazz standard. Many great performers like Nat King Cole, Eric Clapton or Eva Cassidy have published their own versions.

For us, it was an experiment in a genre we were not really at home in. We also didn’t want to interpret it too sadly. Because there can also be something upbeat and liberating in this particular mood. Because even when the old fades away, we can await the new with joy. Autumn is a beautiful season of transition, and this great song carries this mood like no other.
